Literary Palate Cleanser

I never thought of it this way but yes, science fiction is such a refreshing “palate cleanser” for me after reading a Booker Prize winner, a classic, or a heavy memoir. I enjoy all of those other books and that’s why I read them but man are they heavy. I can’t think of another word for it. They have too much weight. A good scifi can make me care, make me gasp, make me feel lost when it’s over but I never feel as if I checked something off a to-do list the way I do with other genres.
